Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 9, 2026
This page explains what data WhatsThePop collects when you use the site, why, and what choices you have. It's written in plain language, not as a legal document, and it's kept in sync with what the site actually does — nothing here describes a feature that isn't live.
Information we collect
- Usage analytics: WhatsThePop does not currently run any analytics tool. If one is added in the future, it will either be cookieless by design or gated behind the consent choice you make in the cookie banner on this site.
- Your comparison ('home') country: if you pick a country to compare against, that choice is saved in your browser's localStorage so it's remembered on your next visit. If you haven't picked one, the site guesses a default from your browser's language setting — this happens entirely in your browser and is never sent to or stored on our servers.
- Hosting logs: our hosting provider (Vercel) may keep standard operational logs (request time, path, aggregate traffic volume) for security and reliability purposes. WhatsThePop itself does not separately collect, store, or look up IP addresses.
Third-party services
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery for this site.
- No analytics vendor is integrated at this time. This section will be updated with the specific provider's name if one is added.
Advertising
WhatsThePop does not display ads today. We plan to apply for Google AdSense in the future. Once ads are live, Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your interests. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in Google's ad settings. This page and the cookie banner will be updated when advertising actually goes live.
Your rights (GDPR)
You have the right to know what data we hold about you, request a correction or deletion, and object to how it's processed. In practice, WhatsThePop has no account system and keeps no server-side record tied to an individual visitor — the only personal data involved (your comparison-country choice and cookie preference) lives in your own browser's storage until you clear it. For anything else, or questions about this policy, contact us using the details on the contact page.
Data retention
Information stored in your browser (your chosen comparison country, your cookie consent choice) stays on your device until you clear your browser storage — WhatsThePop does not keep a separate copy of it on our servers.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle data changes — for example, when advertising or analytics actually goes live — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
